fig 1.2 CNC -controller with digital hot wire control .

in the figure below you can see my controller with all functions in one case.

Interface board CNC controller and hot wire controller.

On the back off the case are the leads from the 4 stepper motors and the hot wire and the interface cable .

the current from the hot wire is controlled with steps of 0.01 amps , for a good temperature control .

on the front there are two switches and a jack for a external switch to put the wire on or off.

One switch is to put on the complete unit , and there is a dial to control the current to the hot wire.

Software Installation:

Installation should be in a DOS environment . ( under DOS or in a DOS-BOX )

Installation of the software goes as follows . put the installation diskette in drive a or b and type a:

( move to disk drive a: ) here you type install. The programme ask you to where the software

should be installed answer C or D or a network drive. It will also ask you to fill in the directory standard C:>\quax16 directory .

1.1.2 Machine-Set-up:

The machine should be placed on a straight and horizontal table the two x axes should be

placed parallel at a distance from about 1.20 meters . ( my machine , I have the fixation points

or hinging points at 1.1 meter distance from each other ) I use a 18 mm MDF board on which I fixate

the machine.

It is recommended to place a piece of white foam 1m x 0.5 m x 0.05 m between the two x axes and

cut the topside with the hot-wire level , chose positioning from the taskbar.

(sledges or rails depending on the machine you have build ) . in this text I speak of axes but naturally

I mean the x sledges or rails . You can put some rulers or distance markers on the foam , where you put

the foam-blocks you want to cut. It is recommended to first cut the blocks to the right size before you

cut a wing panel .

User interface:

The program can be operated with the mouse or radio-buttons ( ALT letter with underscore )

configuration:

fig .2.11

This is the screen where the configuration parameters are stored.

After clicking the system taskbar a drop-down menu appears with two tasks configuration and exit task.

When you click the configuration task above input screen will appear. After you filled in the parameters you can

save these parameters with alt s or clicking the mouse on the save button . closing this window cancel .

in this figure you can see my cut-

ting bow it looks like a classic saw .

this design is efficient and cheap

only a few parts are made on a

bench late . wingmutter must be butterfly nut .
