| It has been almost 50 years since the People's Republic of China invaded an illegally occupied Tibet. Since that time over 1.2 million (1 out of 6) Tibetan people have died as direct result of this action. In addition, over 6.000 monestaries have been destroyed, 80% of Tibet's forests have been taken as timber by the Chinese Government, monks and nuns continue to be brutally tortured to this day, and forced abortions and sterilization of Tibetan women continues to be common-place. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama (picture), the spiritual and temporal leader of Tibet, was forced into exile in 1959. Since that time he and the other members of the Tibetan government, as well as thousands of Tibetans, live in exile in Dharamsala, India. |
