02-10-1978 / Manchester / BBC TV Studios, BBC2 "The Old Grey Whistle Test" / UK The Old Grey Whistle Test was The Police's first ever UK TV appearence. The Police performed Can't Stand Losing You and Next To You live in the studio, with only a one second gap in between both numbers. On his birthday Sting flew from Brighton, where he was recording the film Quadrophenia, to Manchester. He almost blinded himself when a faulty areosol can sprayed in his face. During the recording of the BBC TV-show he wore Stewart's sunglasses just to dim the bright studio lights. The glasses were too large for Sting, so he had to balance it on his nose. |
