01-03-1979 / Los Angeles, CA / The Whisky A Go Go / USA • Support act: The Kats. • Capacity: 400. The Police played six shows at The Whisky A Go Go club, divided over three nights. A&M passed out free red Police alert whistles at the shows. Sting: "We started in Los Angeles [..] when the single and the album were sort of bubbling in the [..] top 100. We started of in hysteria. It was amazing, we got to The Whisky A Go Go and people were crying to get in. And it progressed from there onwards, every day it got better as our chart position increased" (BBC radio-interview w/ Richard Skinner; 04-1979). On their second US-tour The Police still crammed in their van, with Kim Turner at the wheel. They travelled a total of 7,200 miles on this tour, playing thirty-seven shows in forty days, covering twenty-one cities. This time they got a promotional push from A&M Records. |
