09-04-1979 / Philadelphia, PA / Walnut St. Theatre / USA • Support act: The The, The Sham 69 (?). This free show was supposed to be played on 02-04-1979 (together with The The and The Sham 69), but was rescheduled because of illness and exhaustion. The Police were announced as: "Would you please welcome here at the Walnut Street Theatre at the last night of their second American tour, The Police". Before Can't Stand Losing You (I): "Hello Philadelphia. How are you doing? I'm sorry we couldn't come last week, we were too ill. I had laryngitis. Stewart couldn't walk. That's our excuse anyway". Before Born In The 50's: "It's good to be here. How many of you went to Grendel's Lair last November?". After some response Sting added: "I'm glad. That was the first place we played in Philly. At Philly-town". Before the final encore, Can't Stand Losing You: "Thank you. Thank you Philly. Really, thank you. I'm glad we came after all. Almost didn't get here". The show was broadcasted by the radio station W10Q. On 10-04-1979 The Police flew out on low-budget Laker Air. That same afternoon, Squeeze flew in to pick up the van and start their second tour of the United States in Kansas. |
