Can't Stand Losing You - Truth Hits Everybody - So Lonely - Fall Out - Born In The 50's - Hole In My Life - Message In A Bottle - Peanuts - Roxanne ** Next To You ** Can't Stand Losing You
Festival line-up: Massade, Average White Band, The Police, Dire Straits, Elvis Costello, Rush, Peter Tosh.
Attendance: 47,000; sellout.
The Police performed from 1.30pm until 2.15pm on the 10th edition of the Pinkpop Festival. The weather was warm and sunny (only interrupted by a hail-storm during Elvis Costello's performance). Right after their performance The Police jumped into a swimming pool which was situated behind the stage.
The press was very positive about The Police's performance. On 06-06-1979 the headline of the Pinkpop review in "de Volkskrant" said: "The Police discovery at Pinkpop" ("The Police ontdekking op Pinkpop").
When asked for his biggest professional thrill in 1979 Stewart referred to the Pinkpop festival (Trouser Press; 12-1979).
John Peel presented the show and played music between the acts. He got really into The Police after seeing their performance.
