26-02-1980 / Hong Kong / Today's World Disco / UK A two-minute segment in which The Police received their British Pop Awards (for Best British Group and Best Album) was televised live to the BBC in London. The Police were to do a split set of 45 minutes each, the first to coincide with the satellite link-up. Anne Nightingale should leap on the stage as they played Walking On The Moon. A Chinese floor manager was to tap her on the back as a cue when he got word from London. The Police played Walking On The Moon (Sting made it local and sang Walking in Kowloon). The band played on and on, but there came no signal from London. Eventually they exhausted all possible variations and came off stage. Later the award was handed over in the dressingroom. |
