Live Aid was the biggest rock concert ever staged. 1.5 billion people turned in from over 170 countries. The event started at Wembley Stadium in London and was continued at the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia.
After performing Roxanne and Driven To Tears Sting and Branford were joined by Phil Collins.
After his set with Sting Phil was flown to London Heathrow by helicopter where he got on board of a Concorde which got him to New York. Later that day he played another set in Philadelphia.
Sting joined Dire Straits on backing vocals during their opening-song Money For Nothing.
In London the event was closed by all artists joining together for the final song Do They Know It's Christmas at 10.00pm.
Live Aid proved to be a great succes. Ticket sales, television rights, merchandising and the worldwide telethon brought in £60,000,000.
