21-10-1991 / New York City, NY / Madison Square Garden / USA • Line-up: Sting, Billy Joel, Don Henley. Don Henley organised three concerts in New York to benefit the fight to save the Walden Woods ("The Concert for Walden Woods - A Musical Event to protect and preserve a national treasure"). Although about 60% of the reservation, west of Boston, was already projected, the Brister's Hill and Bear Garden Hill were still threatened by the build of a business centre. Sting was scheduled for the first two shows, along with Billy Joel and Don Henley. Don Henley opened the evening by saying: "Good evening and welcome to the opening night of a series of concerts for the Walden Woods Project. We provide that you're all here right now. I'd like to introduce to you a fine man, a fine musician and one of Planet Earth's best friends. Ladies and gentlemen ... Sting". Branford Marsalis joined during the whole set. Before Driven To Tears: "Nice to be here at Madison Square Garden". Sting introduced Roxanne as: "This is a new song". Before Message In A Bottle he made the same joke ("Another new song"). |
