30-08-1996 / Irvine, CA / Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre / USA The show was performed at a small outdoor venue, which contains a small stage and seemed to make the concert even better. A guy, Matt, was holding up a sign asking to sing and also saying that it is his birthday. Sting brought him up before I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying. He had his wife and mom and dad with him at the show. After some on-stage chatter about the song being about divorce, Matt grabbed the mike, jumped up and down and shouted: "My name is Matt, it's my birthday and this is my moment!". The crowd went nuts. To top it off, Sting was ribbing him and he just rallied back with the best comebacks. He had Sting totally off guard and didn't know how to respond to this guy's great comments. The best part was this guy could sing. In fact, Sting let him on his own a few times and he just ripped it up. When he was done and came back, he got high-fived from everyone. Sting was so impressed he said "Wow! This boy can sing!". |
