23-11-1996 / Glasgow / SECC / UK • Support act: Paul Carrack. • Attendance: 10,000. The crowd was very enthusiastic. Sting had a portable wallpaper remover on stage, emitting clouds of steam throughout the show. Apparently his throat got dry at Aberdeen, he asked whether he could have an on-set humidifier. They turned round to him and said "This is Scotland, we don't have humidifiers", so he's got a wallpaper remover instead. Looked like a stand with damp cloths on it and looked weird when the lights caught the steam. "After the Aberdeen gig my throat dried up, so Tam got this huge wallpaper stripper to blow steam constantly onto the stage. It seems to work. I feel like I'm singing in the shower". Before You Still Touch Me: "Usually the drummer and the keyboard player spend the whole evening behind their instruments, so let's invite them down to the front of the stage. This is Vinnie Colaiuta, one of the best drummers in the world. He'll be playing the tambourine". Kenny had a little dinky organ on his lap, Sting claimed it was the one he'd had since he was seven. Again two people got on stage during I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying and sang well. After Sting asked the guy: "So how are you doing?", he replied: "I think I am going to pee myself". Both of them were happily married: "You've been married for 9 years [turned to the guy], you've been married for 7 [turned to the woman]. This song is about divorce [turned to the crowd]". |
