Libraries? Still Useful?
Today I happened to be in a library. You know - the big room with lots of books and no people ...
I was reading a magazine and came across an unfamiliar word. "Grubstake." I decided to look it up. Without thinking I automatically wrote it down on a piece of scrap paper, intending to go home later and look it up on the Internet.
Did I mention I was in a library?
The Debit, part one
So what happened after you and this guy Dewey did the deed on top of the card catalogue?
That's when I met her. The Librarian. She was no stranger to numbers, but she wasn't obsessed with them, like Dewey. No, she was of a different sort. Wild and free, putting fiction next to non, biographies with reference, the j's next to the w's - nothing phased her. Structure, she said, was for the rest of the world.
The Intolerant Librarian
"Intolerant Librarian" now listed on Infoseek, Thus Assuring It Will Never be Found.
That's right librarians, you can now find this page on the Infoseek search engine. All you have to do is go to www.infoseek.com and type in "intolerant librarian". Then you scroll through the listing of web pages in Japanese and some fishing sites to locate a real live link to this page. When I informed a team of information scientists of this finding, they were amazed to hear that the "typing in unique keywords approach" was effective at all on Infoseek. Information Specialist Rob McMillion states that "when I really don't want to find a certain piece of information, I go right to Infoseek. Since I get paid more the longer it takes to find information, Infoseek is my 1st choice in search engines after a bad night at the casino."
The Bookworm Killer
Horror Story Idea
The Renegade Librarian
What little I knew about serial killers I learned in a university library. The only thing I knew for certain was that people didn't kill each other in libraries.
